Kimbolton Ohio
The History of Kimbolton, Ohio Kimbolton was originally named Liberty and was laid out in 1828 by John Gibson, the first person to plan the town. A post office was established there in 1837. In 1884, the village was renamed Kimbolton, after a local merchant’s hometown of Kimbolton, England. The village remained a small community until residents voted in 2004 to give its responsibilities back to Liberty Township. Kimbolton officially dissolved as a village on April 30, 2005.
Mills and Infrastructure
Kimbolton was home to three mills on the Wills Creek for more than a century. 1820: A log “corn cracker” mill was built on the south side of the creek and later converted to a flour mill and sawmill. 1847: A large timber grist mill, five stories high, was built over the creek. It was used by the community for many years before burning down in 1907. 1908: A new water powered mill was built by The Kimbolton Milling Company and was in operation until sold and dismantled in the 1940s. Today the only evidence of Kimbolton’s history are the stone foundation walls near the abandoned pony truss bridge.
